Most people align mindfulness with meditation and that is not necessarily the case. Mindfulness simply refers to the act of being present and paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really take notice of what is going on around or inside of you.

"Mindfulness is the opposite of rushing or multitasking. Whatever you are doing, it should be slowed down and relaxed in an easy way."

In a world with a seemingly ever increasing pace, taking the time be be mindful each day helps individuals stay calm and focused on what is important. Mindfulness helps children pay better attention, stay calm under stress, regulate their emotions, get along better with others, be more patient and feel happier overall.

Schools are seeing the benefits of incorporating mindfulness into the school day. Some of the benefits educators are seeing are visible in the infographic below.

In our ever busier world it is becoming more important than ever to take time to slow down. This is not just true for your children, it is true for you too. Try to carve out some time to do a mindful activity together. Whether it's colouring, cooking or yoga...all involved will be better for it.
